CICELY TYSON – 95

Cicely Tyson is mostly considered as one of the most influential African-American figures in television history. A fashion editor at Ebony magazine discovered Tyson because of her remarkable appearances; she then began rising to the top of the modeling industry in record speed. By 1957, Cicely began acting in off-Broadway productions. She also had small roles in feature films just before being cast as Portia in The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter in 1968.

A big credit for this was her portrayal of strong and independent characters during her prime. It also helped her get numerous awards such as three Primetime Emmy Awards, four Black Reel Awards, and a Screen Actor Guild Award. She also won a Tony Award and an honorary Academy Award thanks to her efforts and contribution to the film and television industry. She continues to work in various productions at the age of 95. She will star in the upcoming film A Fall from Grace.
